Another gold for Bahrain!
Akhmed Tazhudinov made a historic win for Bahrain, bringing the country’s first-ever Olympic medal in wrestling. He won gold in the men’s 97 kg freestyle at the Paris Olympics 2024.
During the match, it took the 21-year-old Russian wrestler less than two minutes to pin Givi Matcharashvili of Georgia, cementing his spot as one of the most reputable wrestlers in the world.
”I had a year of training, and I was very focused,” Tazhudinov said after the fight.
He also thanked his supporters and team for this Olympic gold success.
“Without my coaches and everyone else supporting me, I wouldn’t be here.”
Meanwhile, Georgia’s Givi Matcharashvili nailed the silver medal, while Magomedkhan Magomedov of Azerbaijan and Amirali Azarpira of the Islamic Republic of Iran clinched the bronze medal.
In 2022, the Russian wrestler began representing Bahrain at the Dinmukhamed Kunayev Memorial International Tournament in Taraz, Kazakhstan. He won gold during that time.
Moreover, he set the seal on the 2023 World Championships in the 97 kg category by winning gold. This marks his first senior world title.
In the same year, he also won gold during the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China.
