Bahrain has achieved another remarkable milestone!
The kingdom’s national mixed martial arts (MMA) team won impressively at the 2024 International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Asian Championships.
The event, which took place on August 22 in Lahore, Pakistan, saw the team secure a total of three gold, three silver, and three bronze medals, showcasing their prowess and skill on an international stage.
The country’s nine-medal haul secured the third-place overall champ in the said competition, organized and run by the International MMA Federation (IMMAF) and the Asian MMA Federation (AMMAF).
Bahrain’s Gimbat Magomedov successfully defended his Asian welterweight title in the 77.1kg category by claiming victory over Tajikistan’s Jovidon Mahmudov through a unanimous decision.
Sultan Gapizov secured the gold medal in the men’s heavyweight 120.2kg category with a decisive victory over Azmuddin Vakhobov of Tajikistan. Gapizov claimed the top spot after achieving a technical knockout against Vakhobov in the second round of the match.
In an impressive display of skill and strength, Bahraini MMA athlete Gadzhi Gadzhiev emerged with a golden victory in the men’s light heavyweight 93kg category. He secured a unanimous decision win against Abylay Shakirbekov of Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, Magomed Sheikhov in the men’s strawweight 52.2kg class, Abdulrahman Janahi in the men’s middleweight 83.9kg final, and Ali Marhoon in the junior men’s welterweight 77.1kg division sealed the country’s silver continental titles.
On the other hand, Shamil Alikhanov in the men’s bantamweight 61.2kg category, Ahmed Mubarak in the men’s featherweight 65.8kg class, and Abdulla Ismaeel in the junior men’s flyweight 56.7kg division bagged three bronze medals.
