The history of football was rewritten.
Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first male player to score his 900th career goal in competitive club and country football.
This came after their win over Croatia, 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday, Sept. 5.
The 39-year-old Portuguese legend took to X, expressing his gratefulness towards his milestones.
“I dreamed of this, and I have more dreams. Thank you all!” he wrote in the caption.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the Associated Press, Ronaldo said this historic winning “means a lot” for him as he “wanted to reach it for a long time.”
“It was a milestone I wanted to reach for a long time. I knew I would reach this number, because as I continue to play, it would happen naturally,” he said to the media outlet.
100th goals
Ronaldo said on his YouTube channel that he is already planning to score his 1000th goal in the league with his old Manchester United colleague Rio Ferdinand.
“I want to reach 1,000 goals. If I don’t have any injuries, this for me is the most important (thing), I want that. For me, the best mark that I can have in football is to reach, first, 900 goals. After, my challenge is to be at 1,000 goals,” he said.
According to the Olympics, Ronaldo was named the first men’s player in history to score 800 goals for club and country.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), on the other hand, called him as the most prolific scorer in the history of senior international football and holds the record for most goals scored in both the Champions League and the UEFA Club Competition.
In 2003, he joined Manchester United and began his club career under Portuguese side Sporting CP.
He transferred to Real Madrid, one of the biggest teams in La Liga in Spain, where throughout his nine years there, he scored 450 goals in 438 games.
In 2021, Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils after spending two years with the Italian team Juventus. He stayed with the team until 2023, at which point he left to play for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
