Rooba Alomari has concluded her Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, securing a commendable sixth place in the highly competitive women’s discus throw F55 category.
Alomari, recognized as the first wheelchair basketball player in the Gulf region, achieved a remarkable best throw of 23.24 meters in her sixth and final attempt.
The 33-year-old athlete’s earlier attempts yielded distances of 21.99m, 22.05m, 22.14m, 22.95m, and 22.77m, showcasing her consistency and determination before culminating with her top performance.
This marks her second-best placing in the discus throw F55 category as she placed fifth in the Tokyo Olympics and seventh in the Rio Olympics.
Colombia’s representative and the reigning world champion, Erica Maria Castano Salazar, emerged as this year’s champion, besting out Tokyo 2021 gold-medalist Dong Feixia of China, who bagged the silver medal this time.
Al-Omari entered the Para Athletics at the age of 23.
During Tokyo 2020, she was Bahrain’s sole female competitor and flag-bearer. She has proved her athletic prowess by garnering 26 championships by participating in various world competitions, including the Tokyo Olympics in Japan 2021, World Discus Throw, Gulf Leagues, and the West Asian Championship, among others.
This made her bring 28 gold medals, 13 silver medals, and six bronze medals to the Kingdom.
